Anderson Edges Mount Healthy 54-53 in Thrilling Holiday Hardwood Classic Showdown

In a dramatic back-and-forth contest, the Anderson Raptors held off a late charge from the Mount Healthy Owls to win 54-53 at the Cintas Center, as part of the Holiday Hardwood Classic.

The game started with Anderson’s Toby Strausbaugh setting the tone early, scoring three quick buckets to give the Raptors an early advantage. Mount Healthy’s Deon’dre Chambers responded for the Owls, scoring the majority of their points in the opening quarter. Despite Chambers’ effort, Anderson led 18-14 after one quarter.

The second quarter saw both teams struggle to find their rhythm offensively, resulting in a low-scoring frame. However, the highlight came late in the half, when Chambers drove to the basket for a smooth, acrobatic layup, then emphatically shouted, “I do this, on my momma.” Despite his spirited play, Anderson managed to maintain its lead and went into halftime with a 26-20 advantage.

Mount Healthy began to claw back in the third quarter, and with 2:18 left, they finally took their first lead of the game. But Anderson’s sophomore guard Ace Alston quickly responded, hitting a clutch three-pointer to give the Raptors a 29-27 lead heading into the final frame.

In the fourth, Mount Healthy caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting several three-pointers to take a 49-45 lead with 4:21 remaining. The Owls appeared poised for a late-game victory, but a controversial moment occurred when a 30-second timeout was granted to Mount Healthy with just one minute left on the clock, leading to some testy exchanges between both teams.

With the game on the line, Anderson’s Trace Jallick stepped up in the closing moments. Jallick hit an and-one with just 10 seconds remaining, giving the Raptors a 54-53 lead. Mount Healthy had one last opportunity, but a buzzer-beater attempt fell short, allowing Anderson to hold on for the win.

Jallick was named the Beacon Orthopedics Sports Medicine Game MVP for his clutch performance, finishing with key free throws and a crucial and-one to seal the game.

With the win, Anderson improves to 1-3 on the season, while Mount Healthy drops to 3-5. Anderson will look to build on this exciting victory, while Mount Healthy will regroup and look to bounce back in their next contest against Withrow.

Score: 54 - 53 [FINAL]
