After a thrilling opening game between Turpin and La Salle, the next matchup started about 20 minutes later featuring the Sycamore Aviators of the GMC and the Milford Eagles of the ECC.
Sycamore raced out to a 25-6 lead after the first quarter, but Milford cut the deficit to 33-19 at the half thanks in large part to a whopping foul disparity (Sycamore was called for eight team fouls in the first half, while Milford was charged with just one).
In the third quarter, Sycamore again used their athleticism and physicality to extend the lead back to 47-30, and the final frame wasn't any different with the Aviators earning a victory by the final score of 59-45.
"[The Holiday Hardwood Classic] was a great opportunity for us to get a postseason feel," Sycamore head coach Tim Austing said postgame. "You go to a big arena on a bus, go to a weird place, it sounds different and looks different... We treated it knowing that this is what it's going to look like in eight weeks during tournament time. It was a good experience for the kids."
